Are these running shoes good for wide feet

Just got back into jogging 😊 and need shoes that fit my wide feet without pinching.

I had the same issue getting back into jogging with wide feet. I tried a minimalist wide pair that felt roomy but the zero drop flared up my calves. Then I went back to a standard trainer and my pinky toes went numb after a couple miles.

What finally worked for me was Minimalist Trail Runner. The toe box is actually wide so my toes can splay without pinching and and the built in arch support kept my midfoot stable so I did not need extra insoles. They run a touch heavier than the minimalist pair I tried, but the comfort and lack of hotspots made my easy runs enjoyable again.

Fair point.

I fit runners at a specialty shop and that model feet can be comfortable if you check three things. Get an actual that model width rather than just sizing up in length. Look for a toe box that stays broad through the forefoot so the pinky side does not taper sharply. Make sure the midfoot can be secured so you are not sliding forward on downhills. Lace the lower section a touch looser and then finish with a heel lock at the top to keep the back stable. Works great. If you can wiggle all your toes and still feel hugged around the arch, you have the right shape.

Getting back into jogging with that model feet, I actually focus on platform shape and cushioning more than weight. A wider base with less aggressive forefoot taper lets the toes splay, and a gentle rocker up front reduces pressure on the small toes during push off. Midfoot lockdown still matters so the foot does not slide into the front, so look for a gusseted tongue or webbing that pulls from the midsole rather than the upper. Take a few strides, then a few more at easy pace, and pay attention to the outer toes and the spot behind the big toe joint. If those areas feel calm after a mile, that is a good sign. Big difference.

Quick check when trying them on for that model feet. Stand and spread your toes, and make sure the fabric does not tent or pull across the knuckles. Leave a thumb width in front of the longest toe which, yeah if they feel good walking but pinch when running, loosen the bottom two eyelets and retie with a heel lock so the forefoot can breathe while the back stays secure. Easy fix. Also test late in the day when feet are a bit larger and during a short jog to confirm no hotspots.

Hi Josiah,

As someone who's been running for years with that model feet,, I can tell you that not all shoes are created equal for us. When I resumed jogging after a break, I prioritized flexibility in the upper material to allow my feet to spread naturally. That prevented the numbness I used to get in my toes.

Don't forget about the heel fit too. A secure heel keeps everything stable without squeezing the forefoot. And if you're prone to overpronation and look for stability features. It's all about trial and error, but once you find the right combo, your runs will feel so much better.

A roomy toe box with a soft upper that avoids overlays on the bunion and a snug heel counter fixed my toe crush and heel slip... I switched to wide sizing in the same length for more width and then test jogged on inclines to be sure my toes stayed relaxed.

That model feet here too, and getting back to jogging was tough until I figured out the shoe thing. I learned that going up half a size sometimes helps with the width, even if the length feels a bit off at first. No pinching anymore.

Tried insoles for extra support. Eh, mixed results. But overall, comfort improved a lot.

That model feet and running shoes? Story of my life. I got back into jogging and my old sneakers were killing me and toes all crammed in there. Switched to something roomier and bam, no more pinching or blisters. But watch out for the arch support; if it's not there, your feet might fatigue quicker than you'd like.

I mean I tried ignoring it once and ended up with sore calves, yeah not fun. Anyway, measure your feet width-wise before buying, helps a ton.

Broad toe boxes stopped the pinching and let me run longer & and a proper in store fitting matters since sizing varies. Choose cushioning that feels right because too little hurts and the right amount keeps you comfortable.

Quick note - Along with a broad toe box look for foot-shaped models (Altra, Topo) or true wide sizes (2E/4E) in brands like New Balance and Brooks, which often fit wide feet better than regular “roomy” versions and... try them on late in the day with your running socks, and consider skipping an eyelet over the forefoot to ease pressure. If you’re wide through the midfoot too, go for true wide sizes rather than a spacious toe box.
