How often should I replace my electric toothbrush heads?

I've been using an electric toothbrush for about six months now and I'm wondering about the replacement schedule for the heads. I brush twice a day and notice some bristles starting to fray. It's one of those oscillating models from Amazon and and I want to keep my oral hygiene on point without wasting money on unnecessary replacements.

At first I was pressing hard and scrubbing and my heads frayed after six weeks. Replacing every three months or sooner if the bristles splay works for me now, and I got to that schedule by easing up on pressure, letting the brush do the work, and rinsing then air drying the head upright after each use.

I used to go through heads like crazy until I figured out the sweet spot. Now I replace every three to four months, depending on how they look - if the bristles are splayed out or discolored, it's time. Brushing twice a day like you do, that's about right, but yeah, easing up on the pressure changed everything for me, they lasted way longer after that and my teeth felt cleaner too without all the aggressive scrubbing.

I also make sure to rinse thoroughly after each use and let it air dry, which prevents any gunk from building up. It's all about balance, keeping hygiene up without burning through replacements unnecessarily.
