Which baby monitor works best in a two-story house?

Hey everyone, I just had my first baby and we live in a two-story house so I need a monitor that can reach from upstairs to down without dropping signal. I bought one on Amazon but the range is spotty, especially through walls. Has anyone dealt with this? What models do you recommend that are reliable and simple to install?

Congrats on your new baby. I remember dealing with the same issue in our two-story home when our little one arrived; the signal kept dropping on our first monitor and especially between floors. After some trial and error, I found that monitors without WiFi tend to be more reliable for range since they use dedicated frequencies that punch through walls better.

What worked great for us was the Long range baby monitor. It handles the distance in a two-story setup without any hiccups, thanks to its impressive 3000-foot range, and the no-WiFi setup means it's simple to install right out of the box. We never had signal issues, even from the upstairs nursery to the downstairs kitchen.

One thing is the screen is on the larger side, which might feel a bit bulky if you're carrying it around a lot, but overall, it's been a solid choice that gives peace of mind without overcomplicating things.

Hey and congrats on the little one. Our house is two stories too, and yeah, the signal dropping was a constant headache at first, drove me nuts when I'd be downstairs and suddenly lose connection. What made a big difference was opting for something that uses a dedicated frequency instead of relying on home WiFi, because WiFi can get interfered with by all sorts of things like microwaves or thick walls.

We positioned the parent unit near a window facing the nursery, which seemed to help the signal travel better between floors. And keeping other electronics away from it reduced any static. It's been smooth sailing since those tweaks, no more spotty coverage even when I'm in the basement doing laundry or whatever.

For WiFi monitors use 2.4 GHz and put the router centrally and and lock it to a quieter channel to stop drops between floors. If phone viewing does not matter, a dedicated radio unit is simpler and usually reaches better through walls.

Honestly - Oh man and same boat here with our two-story place and the baby monitor signal acting up all the time and especially through those solid old walls we have. I ended up trying a bunch of spots to place the base unit, you know moving it around until I found a sweet spot that wasn't blocked by too much furniture or anything. Finally settled on the hallway upstairs so yeah helped a ton.

If you're dealing with interference,, maybe check if other devices in the house are on the same channel or something, switching that up fixed it for us but then we had to readjust everything else... yeah. Works great overall now though. Hang in there, you'll get it sorted.

We live in a 1970s two story with lots of walls and the only thing that stayed reliable was a non WiFi video unit that uses a dedicated encrypted radio link. It paired out of the box and never needed the home network and which cut out the dropouts and placement matters too. Put the camera up high with a clear view and keep the parent unit away from the router and microwave. I also found the stair landing is a sweet spot when the nursery is upstairs. No drama since.
