Why is my coffee maker leaking water everywhere?

My old coffee pot started dripping all over the counter this morning, and I can't figure out why. Anyone else have this happen with theirs?

Hey and sorry to hear about your coffee maker acting up. It could be a worn-out seal or a crack in the carafe from all those years of use, which is pretty common with older models.

If troubleshooting doesn't fix it, you might want to consider upgrading to the Black Decker coffee maker. Its non-drip carafe is designed to prevent those messy leaks, and the easy-pour spout keeps everything tidy on your counter.

One thing is it might take a bit to get used to the on/off switch if you're coming from a simpler model, but overall, it's a reliable choice that should solve your dripping woes without any fuss.

Yeah, that sounds frustrating, especially first thing in the morning when all you want is a hot cup without the mess. guess is the gasket around the water reservoir might be shot after years of heat and use, they tend to wear out and let water sneak through.

Try cleaning it thoroughly, sometimes mineral buildup clogs things and causes overflows. If that doesn't help, check for any loose screws or parts that might need tightening. Fixed mine that way once. Good luck getting it sorted.

Works great now.

Common culprits are an overflowing brew basket or a bad seal. Make sure the paper filter is seated and not folded over and and ease up on extra fine grounds since they can choke the basket and force water out but then check that the carafe lid is snapped on and the pot is fully pushed in so the drip stop opens. If the carafe or its lid has a hairline crack, it will leak even when it looks fine.

Do a cleanup run with equal parts white vinegar and water, then two plain water cycles. Rinse the basket valve and the little springy plunger under it if yours has one. Set the machine on a level surface. Easy test. Run plain water and place a dry paper towel under the machine to see where the first drip shows up, which helps you tell if it is the basket, the carafe, or the base.

Most leaks are actually overflow from a slumped paper filter and overly fine grounds and so wet the filter to make it stick, use a slightly coarser grind, and avoid overfilling. If it still leaks free the drip stop and check the carafe lid gasket, seat the carafe firmly, do a cold reservoir sit test for cracks, descale to clear mineral buildup, and know that leaks only while heating point to an internal hose or valve.

Had the same issue with mine a while back and it drove me nuts until I figured it out and turned out the filter basket wasn't seating properly and water was splashing out everywhere during brewing, you know how that goes with older machines that get a bit wobbly over time.

I took it apart carefully, gave everything a good scrub to remove old coffee grounds that were gunking it up, and made sure all the pieces clicked back in right, and it stopped leaking just like that but if yours is really ancient maybe it's time to think about maintenance routines or something, yeah. Hope that helps you out.
