Yeah and blenders can be finicky when they get old. Mine did the same thing last year, that awful grinding like nails on a chalkboard but then turned out the blade assembly was the culprit, probably just worn down from all the blending. I disassembled it, cleaned everything thoroughly, and reassembled it tighter than before. Worked like a charm after that. Yeah. Give it a shot, but be gentle so you don't break anything else.
