Will this OBD2 scanner read ABS codes on a 2012 Toyota Camry?

I want to confirm it can read antilock brake and airbag codes not just engine codes, on a 2012 Camry. Need to know before I BUY since returns are a hassle in my area.

Short answer yes. Most cheap readers only pull engine codes, but you need one that talks to the ABS and SRS modules on Toyota. A safe pick that works on a 2012 Camry is Foxwell NT604. It reads and clears ABS and airbag codes and it also covers engine and transmission so you are not stuck with just generic OBD2.

I agree with the top answer. Cheap readers only talk to the engine side, while that unit also communicates with the ABS and SRS modules on Toyota, so it will read and clear those codes on a 2012 Camry. I ran into the same situation on a friend's 2012 Camry with an ABS light and it pulled the fault and cleared it after the repair. If you want one tool that covers engine, transmission, ABS, and airbag on that car, this is a safe pick.

ABS and airbag lights on these cars are common and generic readers won't see those modules. Use a scanner that supports ABS and SRS to read and clear codes after the fix even if the light sometimes goes out after a drive cycle.

I would not assume anything until you verify the feature list so yeah... lots of budget readers advertise all systems but only do powertrain once you plug in. Two quick checks that save returns. Look for explicit mention of ABS and SRS for Toyota with Camry listed by year, and make sure live data for those systems is shown in the manual or screenshots. If you can, stop by a parts store and have them scan your car first, that tells you whether your issue is in ABS or SRS and lets you hold off on a purchase until you know what you need.

OBD2 by itself only guarantees engine and emissions data. ABS and airbag live on separate modules and need manufacturer specific access on Toyota. Before you buy check the coverage sheet and make sure it says it reads and clears ABS and SRS on Toyota Camry through the 2012 model year, and if you want to be extra safe ask the seller to confirm with your VIN since some tools gate ABS by trim or region. If those boxes are ticked, it will do what you want and you will not be stuck with an engine only reader.

Yes, provided the scanner lists ABS and SRS support for Toyota and specifically shows coverage for a 2012 Camry. The basic OBD2 readers only talk to the engine. If the description says it can access ABS and airbag modules, you are good. I have pulled and cleared ABS and SRS faults on that exact year Camry with an enhanced reader. Worked fine.
