Great points. I’d add that the front exhaust grille can clog with fine lint or singed hair and restrict flow like the intake so give the nozzle and slots a thorough clean too. If you’re on a long or thin extension cord and plug straight into the wall - voltage drop can slow the fan and trigger overheat. If it still trips after a deep clean, the thermal cutoff or motor is likely weakening and it’s probably near end-of-life.

Been there... Another vote for 100 percent cotton at 300 gsm or higher for true wet-on-wet. Cold press takes floods without the paper turning to waves, especially if the pad is gummed on one edge so you can pull a clean sheet. If I know I will stack layers, I mist the back lightly and tape the margins to a board while it dries. Keeps it flat. Then tear out when you are done and the edge stays neat.
