Moving to a new city—how do adults make real friends?

I'm moving to a new city next month for a job and I don't know anyone there. I'm a bit introverted and I'm worried I'll just go home after work and isolate. I'd really like to build real friendships, not just coworker small talk. I'm not a big drinker, so bars aren't my best option, and my budget is tight for a while. I can commit a few evenings a week and weekends if there's a plan. What groups, activities, or habits actually lead to meeting people you see more than once? I'd also love some simple scripts for starting conversations without being awkward. Any advice on pacing, safety, and staying consistent would really help. Thank you in advance. For context: I'm not looking for professional advice, just everyday experiences.

Am I being unfair about how we split chores?

My partner and I have lived together for a year, and chores are starting to feel lopsided. We both work long hours, but I end up doing dishes and laundry most nights, and I'm worried I'm building quiet resentment. We have a tiny kitchen, no dishwasher, and different schedules, so batch chores get tricky. I'm anxious about sounding accusatory and really want a fair, low-drama plan. What frameworks or scripts have worked for you to divide chores when time and energy aren't equal?

Anyone know is a 20V cordless drill compatible with other 20V batteries from different brands?

I'm looking at a 20V drill/driver kit and I already own a couple 20V packs from another tool line, and Do these drills share the same battery interface or are the mounts and electronics usually proprietary? I'd like to avoid buying another charger if possible.

Anyone know can a USB-C hub with HDMI run dual 4K monitors on a MacBook and what specs do I need?

I’m on an M2 MacBook and I want two 4K monitors at 60 Hz from a single USB‑C hub. One monitor is HDMI 2.0 and the other can do DisplayPort but I’d prefer HDMI for both. I’ve tried a cheap hub and only got one 4K60 and the second stuck at 30 Hz. I keep reading about Alt Mode vs DisplayLink and that macOS doesn’t do MST for dual displays. My budget is under $120 and I’d like to keep it plug‑and‑play without driver hassles if possible. Do I need a DisplayLink dock, or is there a USB‑C hub that can drive dual 4K60 over HDMI from this Mac?

Should I get a non-Wi-Fi baby monitor or a Wi-Fi one for better range and privacy?

Our house is older with thick walls and our router doesn't reach the backyard well, and I've seen non-Wi-Fi models with dedicated 2.4 GHz links that claim crazy range. Parents who've tried both, how's the reliability and battery life day to day, and is the video quality good enough at night?

How do I inflate a stand up paddle board with an electric pump without overfilling it?

I have a SUP and a 12V pump. I am worried about overfilling it. How do I set the PSI on the pump and know when to stop so I don’t pop a seam?

Will an HDMI 2.1 switch pass 4K 120Hz with HDR on a PS5 and a TV?

I want to plug a PS5 and a gaming PC into one TV and keep 4K/120 with HDR :) Does a certified HDMI 2.1 switch maintain VRR and ALLM or do I need a matrix?

How do you politely tell a neighbor their dog barks all day?

My neighbor's dog barks most of the day when they're out, and it's starting to wear me down. I don't want to start a fight; I'd like to approach them kindly and see if we can fix it. How would you word that first conversation, and what solutions should I suggest? Quick background: I've tried a couple things already but keep getting stuck. Thanks in advance.

Is it normal that my knees sound like popcorn when I squat?

My knees make a little crackle on the way down, especially after sitting a while. It doesn't hurt, but it sounds like a snack bar opened under my skin. Is this just air and age, or a sign my form or mobility needs work?

Is a 65W USB-C GaN charger safe for my laptop and phone?

I want one charger for travel that can fast-charge my phone and not cook my laptop. Any issues with heat or throttling on 65W bricks?

Is it worth turning off my phone’s 5G to save battery?

I'm noticing my phone drains fast when I'm out and about. If I switch to LTE, will I actually see a difference in battery life, or is it just in my head? I don't mind slightly slower speeds if it means I'm not tethered to a charger all day 🙂. (Quick background: I've tried a couple things already but keep getting stuck.)

How do I set up an automatic cat feeder so my cat doesn’t overeat?

Hey all, I adopted a rescue who acts like every meal is the last one on earth. I picked up an automatic cat feeder to keep things consistent but he's figured out that meowing at it gets my attention and I cave. I want to set a schedule with small portions throughout the day so he doesn't bolt his food and puke later. The feeder has 1/8-cup increments and a slow feed mode, but I'm not sure how to dial it in. I've tried feeding twice a day, then three times, and now I'm experimenting with 5 tiny meals. I also tested freeze-dried toppers to slow him down, but the chute jammed once and freaked him out. The bowl is shallow and he still eats fast, so I'm considering a puzzle attachment. Anyone using a programmable feeder with a glutton kitty: what portion timing worked, and how do you prevent jams and kibble bounce?

Which ceramic flat iron works best for fine hair?

My hair is fine and prone to frizz!! I don’t want to fry it but I need smooth results. Are narrower plates better for control, or should I go 1.25–1.5 inch?

How do you budget when your income is irregular?

I'm a freelance designer and my income swings a lot month to month. Some months are great, then two lean ones show up in a row, and rent still wants to be paid on time. I'd like a simple system that doesn't require spreadsheets every day, and I prefer separate accounts only if it actually helps. I also need to set aside taxes and avoid putting emergencies on a credit card. How would you structure buckets, percentages, or buffers for this kind of cash flow? (If it matters, this is for a normal household setup, nothing fancy.)

My portable jump starter won't turn over a 3.5L engine—did I buy the wrong amp rating?

Backstory: my SUV with a 3.5L V6 sat for two weeks in freezing temps and my portable jump starter wouldn’t crank it. The unit claims 1000A peak and I charged it to 100% the night before. I cleaned the clamps and tried three times, but it just clicked and the lights flickered. Not sure if my model is underrated for this engine or if I’m using it wrong. I’ve seen CCA numbers thrown around and it’s confusing vs “peak amps.” I’m trying to keep the budget under $150 but I need something reliable for winter. How do I match the right amp rating, and are there signs my current pack is failing?

How do you all get over the fear of singing in front of people?

I love singing alone and a couple friends say I should try an open mic, but I freeze up when anyone is listening. I don't need to be amazing; I just want to get through a song without my voice shaking. I'm looking for practical steps to build confidence over a few weeks, ideally things I can do at home or low-stakes settings. Any warm-ups, small challenges, or mindset shifts that helped you? Bonus if it won't annoy neighbors and doesn't require expensive lessons.
